First Frost

Last night was the first frost.  I went out early this morning to listen to the leaves falling.  The still, crisp, morning air, just starting to warm with the early sun.  The little grove beside our house was full of falling leaves.  It's a fluttering sound, almost like rain, and the scene is beautiful.  It's as though the trees are shaking off the last bit of Summer, now ready for the snow to come.
The cold ground crunches underfoot,  most of the birds have flown south, except for my little friend, the chickadee,  he still sings to me.  The frost gives a sparkle of white on every edge and has the smell of earth and air that comes this time of year.
I braved a few minutes of the chill to show off my khaki wrap dress : )
It's brown and cream tones go along with the late season's colors.  Maine has such distinct changing of the seasons:  Spring and Summer are full of life and activity, Autumn is a rush of harvest and hurrying, then comes tucking in and hunkering down for the long, cold months.  Yet, there's ice skating and sledding to bring you out into the splendid white world!  Each season excites me with the possibilities: planting and harvest, working and playing, fun times with friends and family...
I'm looking forward to a cozy evening by the fire tonight
: )

Well done. I love this post, especially your frosty leaf photo. Enjoyed reading your poetic prose, too.

Yes, this is one of those posts that came out just like my old journals. I would enjoy something so much that I just had to write about it : )

I love your dress and yes it was great to hear about your day and how beautiful the fall weather is getting! :) I will be bearing the cold in a few minutes for my annual short walk in the beautiful fall weather. I am jealous of your fire place! :) We never use our own as it smokes us out. But I want to use it someday! Maybe Dad can fix it soon for this winter. :)

In Christ,
Rebecca

We have a woodstove with a glass front door. It's nothing fancy, and it's in the basement. We've sort of made a family room down there, with a couch and area rug. It's a fine place to relax together : )
