I've posted about Olivia Walton's Dresses before. I like the simple, feminine, modest, and tasteful way her character dresses. I've been looking at the way her dresses are constructed - the style of sleeves, skirts, collars, bodices, etc. (not easy to do just from looking at a flat screen) but, I feel that I have enough of an idea to try replicating one of her dresses....or at least I hope so : )
There are Other Pictures Here. I think the dress I'd like to try is this one:
It's a green-blue calico, wrap front style dress. Simple A-line skirt, quarter sleeves, white 'portrait' collar, and ties at the waist. She has a few of these dresses throughout the show....it seams to be one of her 'favorites'. It's different from the typical house dress style, nice enough for wearing to town, and yet still comfortable for wearing at home.
The trickiest part is getting the shape of the collar just right! I've drafted and redrafted a pattern for it...it still needs a bit of tweaking.
(here's my first attempt at this dress) I hope to have more to show you by next week sometime : )

Dear Niece Eva,
You may want to consider, too, that the collar may have been detachable for easier cleaning or replacing:=)
love, Aunt Lou
Can't wait to see them! : ) I love these dresses so much, they are so feminine and nice. There is just a sweetness about them...I think the sweetness must spill over into the homes too? : )
Oh, I love that cut! Will you start with a commercial pattern and tweak as you go or will you cut completely from scratch?
ooooh, very exciting! I like your research. Are you really drafting your own pattern? I'm so impressed.
